Coal Avenue Commons
Gallup's downtown is a fantastic place for entertainment, dining, and more. The good news is, that we're making it even better! This area, the Coal Avenue Commons, is now under its second phase of construction. Follow along here for updates during the process!
About Coal Avenue Commons
The Coal Avenue Commons is the heart of downtown where the community has come together to envision what our blocks would look like for events, infrastructure, and sharing of our unique identity.
The City of Gallup, in partnership with gallupARTS received a $150,000 Our Town grant from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA). After the local match and planning process, the design went to construction.
The City was fortunate to receive funding from the State of New Mexico, New Mexico Mainstreet, Gallup Business Improvement District, and additional partners to complete the more than $3 million dollar first phase between Second and Third Streets on Coal Avenue. This phase was completed in 2021.
Phase II Began May 2nd, 2022 and will consist of the reconstruction of the intersection of Coal Avenue and 2nd Street. Once the intersection is complete, the construction of Coal Avenue between 2nd and 1st Street will begin.
