Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary
Located 63 miles southeast of Gallup, Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary is a non-profit dedicated to providing life-long care to wolves, wolfdogs, and other wild canids.
Wolves, wolfdogs, and other wild canids are less amenable to domestication and socialization. People who purchase them as pets or breed them often find themselves needing to rehome them. That can be challenging. It is illegal to own a wolfdog in many states. If they are discovered, they can be seized or euthanized.
Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary is home to 70+ rescues, including wolves, wolfdogs, coyotes, New Guinea singing dogs, red foxes, and more. The staff and interns are very sensitive to each animal’s personality, patiently earning the trust of new arrivals. Care is customized to each animal’s needs, desires, and health. None of the animals are eligible for adoption and they can’t be released into the wild due to their reliance on humans for food. As a non-profit organization, they do not receive government funding and rely almost entirely on donations and tours to support the operation.
